Marcus Walker: "I love Goverla" (Blog)

Defender BC "Goverla" Marcus Walker started his blog at the official Superleague website. Here's the first blog post  in which a player shared his impressions of Ukraine and Ivano-Frankivsk, analyzes the latest games "bears" in the Superleague Championship and FIBA EuroChallenge and tells about closest friends on the team.

 About life in Ukraine

Life in Ukraine has been great thus far. The people have been great and the team and organization are wonderful. I love Goverla. The far are great. The town (Ivano) is great and over all I am enjoying myself.

About start of the season

We got off to a very hot start. Playing very well together and winning lots of games. We were #1 in the league for a couple of weeks. We were 7-1 until 2 weeks again, where we started to lose our edge and give a couple of games away. Now we are 7-5 inleague play and 0-1 inthe Euro Challenge.

About debut at the Euroarena

The EuroChallenge game was a heart breaker. We lost by 2 to a buzzer beater. It was disappointing. Playing without Eric Coleman has been slightly difficult for the team seeing as how we look to him for several things. Although we didn’t have him, we should have won that game. All in all, we have lost some very close games and have a lot to look forward to. As a team, we haven’t all played well and that’s something positive we can all look at. Defense has to be the focus of our team and we must make it very difficult for other teams. We must be that team in the league that no ones want to play because they know we play hard and will fight no matter what.

About faith in partners

Everybody on the team has faith in one another. We just have to show it out on the floor. Everybody on this team gets along with each other that’s what so cool about this team. Not one person is out for themselves or has their own agenda. So, that makes the games and the environment and chemistry of the team better.

About friends in team

We spend a lot of time off the court and that’s something we can build off of. Me and Tiggs are very close. We room on the road. We have gotten very close. It’s always good when you have someone to talk to outside of just practice. Life overseas is great but sometimes it can be a struggle. Exactly when you life alone and have no one to go home to. So, having him to talk to has been good. Swanson is a leader and he is teaching me and guiding me to becoming a better floor leader and knowing when and when not to do certain things on the floor. He has been very helpful to me. B.G. is my boy. We joke and play around a lot. He loves music and so do I. I have been to the studio with him several times as he records his music. I also receive knowledge from him about certain things as far as basketball and everyday life situations. And last but not least, Eric “Govern Dog” Coleman. That’s my bro right there. We go at it everyday no matter what. If it’s not something I know about my day, it’s knowing I will hear something smart come out of his mouth. Before arriving toUkraineI called to E. He gave me a heads up on a lot of things before I even got on the plane. Me, Swanson, and Coleman have the same agent (Mike Hart) so I was fortunate to play with the both of them this summer. There is nothing like playing with players you do not like and feel they could care less about the team.

About happiness

As far as me, I love everything about my life right now. I am traveling the world, meeting new people, and playing the game I love so much basketball.ComingfromKansasCity,Missourimany people don’t have to chance, opportunities, and blessing I have been blessed with to do the things and experience some of the things I have in my life. I am doing this for all of my family and the people that has helped me get to this point. I will continue to work hard and give everything I have for Goverla.

About the future

Personally, I haven’t played to the best of my ability and I owe it to my teammates, coaches, and Goverla to play better and I will do so. With the mental toughness that has been installed in me and the heart of a CHAMPION I will and the team will get back on track and start gets more wins again. “Losers live in the past. Winners learn from the past and enjoy working in the present toward the future.” If we live by this quote we will be great and will have great success in the future.
